State Gym
State Gym, located on the far west side of campus, blends history and innovation. The eastern portion was completed in 1913. The western portion is an addition that was completed in 2012. State Gym features a climbing and bouldering wall, a leisure pool with high-dive, hundreds of pieces of fitness equipment, sport courts, cardio machines, two indoor tracks, and more.
State Gym Pool Highlights
- Shallow water space (3 ft 6in) that includes areas for water basketball and water volleyball
- Deep water space (12 ft 6in) with a 3-meter diving platform
- Vortex pool for walking against or floating with the current
- 25-person hot tub
Equipment Checkout
We've expanded our equipment checkout inventory with several new items to support your fitness and recreation goals. Patrons can now check out:
- Fitness Resistance Bands
- Weightlifting Belts (with and without chains)
- Barebell Pads
- Ankle Straps
- Pickleball Paddles
Whether you're looking to enhance your workout, add comfort to your training routine, or enjoy a game of pickleball, these new items are ready for checkout. Stop by and take advantage of the latest additions to our equipment collection.
Lied Rec
Located on the eastern edge of Iowa State's campus, Lied Recreation Athletic Center is a top-notch fitness facility with a wide range of equipment, a group fitness studio, and indoor and outdoor recreational facilities. Lied features two indoor tracks, a bouldering wall, an indoor track and turf field, and many sports courts.
Lied Rec's Indoor Turf and Track
- 50 yard x 60 yard turf field
- Field may be sectioned off for simultaneous use
- Available for use if not otherwise reserved
- Iowa State Athletics has priority over the track and turf area Monday-Friday 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. during fall and spring semesters
- 5.33 laps on first floor indoor track = one mile
- 20 basketball courts and 8 badminton/volleyball courts
Beyer Hall
Beyer Hall is connected to State Gym via skywalk and houses a lap swimming pool, sports courts, Iowa State's gaming and esports space, the SHOP Food Pantry, and more. Iowa State Athletics holds home swimming and diving meets in Beyer Hall. Beyer Hall is also the home for Iowa State Gymnastics practices.
Esports and Gaming Room Highlights
- 30+ high-end gaming desktops
- Four console gaming stations
- Large variety of games available for play
- Drop-in play during open hours when room is not reserved
Climbing Procedures
- Climbers will check in using climbing wall entrance to the right of facility entrance
- All rental gear will be checked out & picked up from facility front desk
- All other climbing procedures will be followed as usual
- Climbers are welcome to use personal harness, chalk bags, helmets, shoes while climbing. No personal belay devices are allowed.
