Medication is a management method for mental health concerns that many find to be extremely effective. Prescription of the correct medication and dosage requires knowledge of the patient's unique circumstance. Providers at the Thielen Health Clinic are there to help students navigate this process.
Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety and depression are common conditions and multiple medications are available to help students manage their condition. However, these medications often have side effects that are important to understand before beginning treatment. Providers at Thielen will talk students through their drug recommendation and help them understand any potential side effects. Providers are also available for follow ups if a change in medication is desired.
Attention Deficit Disorders (ADHD and ADD)
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are commonly misunderstood disorders. Because there isn't a definitive test to determine if a patient has an attention deficit disorder, a combination of consultation and patient history will be used to determine whether a medication prescription is necessary. These measures also ensure that the patient is sincere in their intentions.
The process for obtaining a prescription may involve a request for school report cards as far back as elementary school, if available.
