Fitness classes with variable intensities ensure that there’s a class for you no matter your experience level. Personal training offers you a one-on-one experience that suits your individual needs.

Group Fitness Classes

Elevate fitness with our diverse classes! Iowa State Recreation Services offers cycling, yoga, barre, kickboxing, cross training, and HIIT classes. Fitness classes are offered at no additional charge to Recreation Services members. Advanced registration recommended for participation. 

There will be no Sunrise Yoga on 5/31.

How to participate:

  1. Sign up for our Spring Back Into Fitness challenge using the link below.
  2. Attend 5 group fitness classes between March 25th and April 26th. This is the perfect opportunity to try out some new classes or go back to a class you love!
  3. Come get your free T-shirt! After you attend 5 classes, our team will send you an email letting you know that you can grab your t-shirt from the Admin desk in State Gym!
  4. Keep it going! Rep that new t-shirt at other group fitness classes and keep working towards your fitness goals!

Body Composition Analysis

InBody Composition Analysis

Using bioelectrical impedance technology, the InBody analyzer will provide you with a comprehensive view of your body composition balance. Our fitness staff will guide you through this non invasive, hassle free test. They will take you through the detailed analysis of your body’s fat and muscle, water levels, skeletal muscle mass, and more.

Cost: $15 for a single analysis

Personal Training

We know you're busy. Busy with college classes, work, extracurriculars, etc. It can be challenging to incorporate fitness into your everyday life when you're on the go! With our personal training services, we want to help you reach your fitness goals while working around your schedule. We offer both one-on-one and buddy sessions depending on your needs, schedule, and abilities.

Personal Training Policies

Individuals must have a Rec Services membership to purchase Personal Training Sessions. If you are a new client you must complete a request form first, then purchase session from link within the request form. If you are a current client, you will receive a renewal payment link via e-mail prior to package session completion. Sessions will expire six months from the date of purchase. 

All Personal Training Services are non-refundable except under the following circumstances: 

  1. Client has documented medical or health condition that will not allow them to use the facility.
  2. Client will be on military deployment.
  3. Client is a faculty/staff who is no longer employed by the university.
  4. Client is a faculty/staff with a change in employment status (i.e. shift change or newly assigned remote work).

  • Cancellation/Refund Request Form must be completed for any request. Any applicable documentation must be provided to request a cancellation or refund
  • Upon approval, a refund will be processed within 7-10 business days
  • Approved refunds will be processed on a prorated basis and refunded back via the original method of payment

Small Group Training

Small group training classes are individualized fitness sessions held in a group setting that allow for more specialized attention from the instructor.

The instructor will design a progressive program based on the needs of the class participants. Class sizes will be kept to 12 participants or less. We offer beginner through advanced opportunities.

The session runs for 8 weeks and meets twice a week for a total of 16 classes per session. Small Group Training is an affordable option with certified instructors too good to pass up! 

    Small Group Training Options

    • State Gym Track

      10k Training

      A beginner- intermediate running program for those interested in training together for a 10K race. If you are interested in starting to run but unsure where to begin this is a great class for you. The program will start with interval training and light running to work up to running the full 6 miles by the end of the program. This training program will conclude just before the Drake Relays 10K on Sunday, April 21. Let’s train together! First session begins on Tuesday, February 19, meets for 8 weeks (does not meet over Spring Break).

      Pricing for 10K Training: 16 sessions

      •  Students: $64 ($4/ session)
      • Members: $80 ($5/ session)

      Sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-7:20 AM in Lied Recreation.

    • Barre

      Ballet Basics (FULL)

      Come enjoy the movement and technique of ballet! This introductory class will cover basic ballet positions, steps and vocabulary with a focus on the student’s awareness of proper posture and body alignment. Standing barre work and center floor exercises will be given to enhance coordination, strength, balance and flexibility. Ballet specific strength and conditioning included to strengthen ankles, hips & core. Intro level class- no prior ballet experience necessary. First session begins on Monday, January 29, meets for 6 weeks.

      Pricing for Ballet Basics: 12 sessions

      • Students: $48 ($4/ session)
      • Members: $60 ($5/ session)

      Sessions are  Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30-8:20PM at State Gym.
