Learn to Teach

This program is designed to teach you everything you will need to know to become an ISU Recreation Services Fitness Instructor, and to prepare you to take the ACE (American Council on Exercise) nationally accredited fitness instructor certification exam. The course will consist of a lecture portion and practical portion. Attendance on both days is required. At the end of the course, you will instruct a fitness class to determine skill eligibility to be hired as a fitness instructor for ISU Recreation Services.

To qualify to register you must currently be enrolled as an Iowa State University student and have at least 3 semesters remaining until graduation. A nationally recognized certification is required upon the completion of training and mentoring. There are 2 course offerings this semester, only sign up for one. 

Spring 2025 Fitness Instructor Courses

Dates: February 24 - May 2 (Does not meet during Spring Break) 

Days: Monday/Wednesday 3:00-4:30PM OR Tuesday/ Thursday 2:00-3:30PM  

Location: State Gym 1218 

Fee: $75 due by March 7 (non-refundable)

Personal training

Learn to Train

Spring 2025 Information:

Dates: February 4-May 1,2025 (No Class during spring break)
Day:  Tuesday and Thursday at 3:30pm –5:00pm
Location: State Gym Conference Room 0185 
Fee:  $75, due by February 21 (non-refundable)

This program is designed to teach you everything you will need to know to become a Personal Trainer, and to prepare you to take the ACE (American Council on Exercise) nationally accredited Personal Trainer exam. The course will consist of a lecture portion and practical portion. Attendance on both days is required. At the end of the course, you will perform a training session practical to determine skill eligibility to be hired as a Personal Trainer for ISU Recreation Services.
